Welcome, traveler, to
TEYVAT TRAVELS,
a Genshin Impact fan project!

THEME

Hello everyone, and thank you for your interest in Teyvat Travels! We’re looking for Travelers from far and wide to help us create a warm and memorable fan project dedicated to the characters, stories, and landscapes of *Genshin Impact’s *world of Teyvat. The concept for this project is to produce a travel package fit for any master trailblazer: bundles will include travel-themed merchandise and a fanbook filled with illustrations and written pieces centered around all the sights Teyvat has to offer. Pieces produced for this project should adhere loosely to one of the following themes.

  • VIEWPOINTS Landscapes across Teyvat, big or small. These pieces feature characters visiting recognizable locations from the game, scenery, or memorable places in Genshin Impact.

  • ENCOUNTERS Characters experiencing something exciting, attending an event, or meeting someone (new or old).

  • FOOD The world of Teyvat is littered with delicious dishes to try! These pieces depict characters enjoying some of the delectable cuisine Genshin Impact has to offer.

  • FRIENDSHIP These pieces depict characters spending time with good company.

  • WANDERLUST Pieces that evoke a sense of exploration or curiosity — story-rich locations like Stormterror’s Lair or the Nine Pillars of Peace might fall underneath this category.

We also ask that pieces for Teyvat Travels also have a sense of location: the viewer should be able to know where in Teyvat your illustration takes place! Ideally, flipping through the book should feel like taking a stroll through the world of Genshin Impact. For more information on piece guidelines, please see here.

APPLICATIONS

We’re hoping Teyvat Travels will be a warm love letter to the world of Genshin Impact, to be enjoyed by both participants and purchasers alike. This project is open to writers and artists through a variety of pieces. We’re looking forward to your application!

  • Applications are now CLOSED! Thank you for your support!

COMMUNICATION

Communication for this fanbook will be conducted through a Discord server. Artists can also opt to receive major zine announcements through email.

COMPENSATION

This fan project is for-profit. Funds will first go towards providing artists with a complimentary physical copy of the book, shipped to them free of charge. After that, depending on the number of artists and orders received, participants will also receive all bonus merchandise produced for the book if financially possible. If that goal has been reached, profits from the book will be split evenly into shares. Please see the table below for a detailed breakdown on how these shares will be distributed. Share values for certain items, such as merch and written pieces, are listed in both the artist application and the piece assignment sheet found in the Discord server.

All participants are also eligible to purchase additional copies of the book at production price for personal or retail use. Merchandise artists will be eligible to purchase extra copies of their item if the item has a large minimum order quantity.

For additional details about shares, an example price breakdown, and more on our compensation policy, please see here!

ABOUT SHARES

The value of each share is as follows:
Value of Share = Total Profit / Number of Shares Earned by Participants.
For example, let's take the following scenario:

  • TOTAL BOOK PROFITS: $4000

  • TOTAL SHARES (content amount) OF ZINE: 51 shares

  • SHARE VALUE: $4000 ÷ 51 = $78.43 per share

With this share value, the profits would be distributed like this:

  • SINGLE PAGE: 1 share = $78.43

  • 2-PAGE SPREAD & WASHI TAPE: 2.5 shares = $196.07

  • ADMIN, FINANCE & SHIPPING: 2 shares = $156.86

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions about the distribution policy. Hopefully it’s clear, fair, and concise!

PROFIT DISTRIBUTION

A final deliverable expense report will be provided for all participants to review before profits are distributed. Profits will be sent through Paypal, so please confirm that you have a working way to receive compensation!Alternate payment methods can also be organized, but please confirm it with us first to ensure the funds will arrive safely.Payments will be sent in USD. The recipient is responsible for transaction fees that might be incurred by the payment. In the case that the book meets a certain profit margin, a 1099 form may need to be distributed to artists residing in the United States.

ADDITIONAL COPIES

All participants are also eligible to purchase additional copies of the book at production price for personal or retail use. These copies can be sold at their discretion online or in person at conventions. KYOUSA

Hello, I’m Kyo! I love to see fan projects come to life! I’m hoping to find folks to join me in creating Teyvat Travels because it’s a book I would be overjoyed to own, and sometimes when you want to eat food you have to cook it yourself (please feed me, I am starving). I’ll be conducting production, finances, administration, and fulfillment for the book!

LUNA CHAI
graphics & layout

Hi, I'm Luna Chai! I have a love of Genshin Impact, adventure, and all things vintage, which basically makes this the perfect project! Ayaka and Barbara are my daughters, I have the official paperwork and everything. I'll be doing graphics and layout design for the book!

PAST EXPERIENCE

MOMO
social media & communication

Heyo, I’m Momo! I love Genshin with all of my heart and I haven't dropped the game since launch. Kaeya is the best and Klee is my little sunshine baby! This is my first time modding a project but I’ve been a contributor for quite a few zines. I’ll be sure to give social media mod my all! I look forward to talking with you all, travelers!

PAST EXPERIENCE

CONTACT

For compensation policies, permissions, and other frequently asked questions, please check the FAQ below. Please contact the official fanbook accounts rather than contacting moderation directly for inquiries regarding the book.

FAQ

Q: Can I sell or post my artwork?
Yes! You reserve all rights to the artwork you produce for this project. However, to be fair to our purchasers, please wait until after all books have shipped to sell or post your full pieces!
Q: Which characters will be featured in the book?
We aim to have full coverage for all playable characters in the game. Additionally, we hope to represent all the released regions from the game in our merchandise lineup. It is possible that the Inazuma region will be released during the book’s creation period. In the case that this occurs, we’ll likely be asking our current artist roster or pinch hitters we were unable to fit in our initial artist roster to cover characters from new locations.
Q: Which regions will be featured in Teyvat Travels?
At the moment, Monstadt and Liyue are both confirmed to be included in Teyvat Travels. We are planning to prepare to include Inazuma in the book, but in the case that it isn't released during our production period, we'll opt to leave it out of the project. We have no plans to include regions other than the three listed above.
Q: How many characters can I draw on my page?
As many as you’d like! We ask that you at least feature or include the character you’ve been assigned in your page. Other than that, you can draw any character in the game in your piece.
Q: Can I post a WIP or stream my piece?

  • You can stream your piece up until you begin the coloring stage.

  • You’re also welcome to post WIPs of your piece, but we ask that WIPs are cropped to less than half the size of the piece, and aren’t posted after you’ve started coloring.

  • If you’re a painter, please only post loose coloring rather than rendered work!

  • Please tag us on our social media if you post your piece so that we can retweet it!

  • We’d like the official previews of your piece to be posted after preorders are released to get as much traction as possible! We’ll provide a go-ahead announcement when we’re ready for you to post your work.

Q: Can I post a preview of my finished piece on social media?
An announcement will be made when you can post a preview of your illustration. It’s also possible that we’ll be providing a template for your previews — more on that will be announced as we move forward. We’d like to have all contributors post official previews together during the order period to promote preorders!
Q: Can I draw characters in an alternate outfit?
Yes, but we ask that you ensure all characters are recognizable in your piece! We also ask that your illustration is within the canon universe of Genshin Impact: so if you illustrate alternate outfits, they should still fit in with Teyvat’s setting. Other than that, feel free to feature characters in alternate outfits!
Q: How about alternate universe pieces?
Please only illustrate the canon universe of Genshin Impact for your piece!
Q: Can I include a romantic ship in my piece?
To avoid alienating audiences with any specific ship, try to retain some plausible deniability in your piece. You’re welcome to depict close friendship and character interactions that might imply further, but keep overt shipping to a minimum, please! For writers: a close relationship with the Traveler can be implied or referred to in your letters, but try to stray away from anything loudly romantic if possible!
Q: How will distribution of extra copies work?
All participants have the option to purchase extra copies of the book at production price for personal use or retail sale. Participants will also cover shipping of their extra copies from the USA to their door. Please keep an eye on the Discord for updates regarding our fulfillment capability! Production price will be officially announced after the preorder period has ended.
Q: How will distribution of payment work?
If profit is made, payment will be split according to the shares policy. Payment will be distributed in USD, through Paypal. If you’d like to receive your payment through an alternative method, please contact us through the Discord or our Twitter DMs in advance so that we can confirm the method will be possible! Contributors will be responsible for covering any fees incurred by the transaction or currency conversion.
Q: Can minors participate in Teyvat Travels?
The zine is for general audiences, so minors are welcome to apply for Teyvat Travels! However, please note that all contributors will require a safe and legal way for us to ensure their compensation arrives safely. Individuals under 18 cannot legally receive payments through Paypal, so an alternative payment method will be required. It is the contributor's responsibility to research and verify the safety and legality of an alternate payment method, but we're happy to consult and communicate with younger participants with further questions about payment methods! We'll do our best to ensure that the proposed alternative is safe and legal as well. In the case that a potential contributor is unable to organize a safe and legal payment method, we ask that they choose not to apply for Teyvat Travels—but we're very grateful for their interest, and can't wait to see them in a printed book soon!
Q: How many pages should I produce for the book?

  • Artists are required to submit at least one piece of artwork. Depending on the number of participants, we may allow artists to sign up for additional pages. We ask that you bring at least one of your pieces to 75% completion before starting work on additional pieces.

  • Writers are asked to produce one piece of prose at 1200-2000 words, and at least three character letters. To provide some working room, the absolute maximum length a piece can be is 2500 words.

  • Please read the written piece guidelines under our Submission Requirements for more information.

Q: Can I submit a comic?
Yes, please feel more than welcome to! If you require more than a two-page limit for your comic, please contact the zine to discuss it.

GUIDELINES

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Please only feature characters from Genshin Impact in your piece.

  • Illustrations should loosely adhere to one of the Themes provided.

  • Please see the FAQ for more guidelines on alternate outfits, romantic ships, and non-canon universes.

  • This book is for general audiences. Please keep all submissions safe for work!

ILLUSTRATION GUIDELINES

  • Tone for illustrations can be serious or lighthearted.

  • If you’d like to sign your piece, please do so in a manner that is either inconspicuous or complements your work! Your name will also appear alongside your social media links in the book’s table of contents.

  • Artists are required to submit at least one piece of artwork.

  • Depending on the number of participants, we may allow artists to sign up for additional pages. We ask that you bring at least one of your pieces to 75% completion before starting work on additional pieces.

  • We may also open signups for artists to draw additional assets/doodles for the book’s title page, table of contents, and written pieces (chibis, emblems, etc.) at a later date.

  • Artwork produced for the project may also be repurposed for the book’s packaging at our discretion! If that’s not OK with you, please let us know in advance.

WRITTEN PIECE GUIDELINES

  • Tone for written work can be serious or lighthearted.

  • We’re looking for two different writing pieces from each writer: letters and prose. We ask for each writer to produce one piece of prose, and at least 3 letters. Depending on the number of contributors, writers may be able to sign up to write additional letters.

  • PROSE: Standard works of fanfiction matching one of the book’s Themes. We ask contributors to limit their prose piece to 2000 words or less, and for their piece to be at least 1200 words.

  • LETTERS: We’re looking for every playable character in the game to be represented with a letter written from them to the Traveler. These letters are short notes that will be packaged with the book, 100 - 300 words. Letters can be an invitation, an introspective, or simply the character telling the Traveler what they mean to them. Every character is someone’s favorite, so we’d like for these letters to be meaningful, in-character, and written with the character’s unique dynamic with the Traveler in mind!

  • It’s OK if letters allude to non-canon events, so long as they’re believable: for example, going to tea with Jean, or having attended one of Barbara’s concerts.

  • Example: “I hope you’ve been well, Traveler. I’ve been told that a cup of chamomile tea is good after a long day of hard work. If you’d like, perhaps you’ll let me brew some for you?” — Jean

  • If you need some inspiration, a character’s birthday letter is a good place to start.

  • In the case that not all characters have been covered after the application period, writers will have the option to register for characters without coverage on a first-come-first serve basis.

MERCH GUIDELINES

  • Merchandise pieces each have different submission requirements, and templates will be provided on the Discord server. Please take a look at our Merch section for more information.

  • Artists that have been accepted as merchandise-exclusive contributors will be asked to cover at least two merchandise pieces from our merchandise list. After that, our full artist roster will have the option to sign up for any remaining merchandise types at their leisure on a first-come-first-served basis.
